Baseline Versions

The Baseline Versions command sets the current value of all versioned attributes and parameters as the baseline version and discards all other versions. This command can be applied at many different levels enabling fine-grained control of attribute / parameter versions. You will be prompted to confirm before the versions are baselined.

 

Versioning is enabled or disabled at the project level. If disabled at the project level, the commands to baseline versions will be disabled.

 

NOTE:

Baselining Versions versus Purging Versions Baselining versions clears all attribute and parameter versions except for the current and establishes the current version as the baseline value. Purging Versions maintains the current attribute / parameter version and the baseline version but discards all interim versions between the two.

Baselining at the Relationship Level

Relationship attributes are not frequently versioned. However, to baseline versions for a relationship, select the relationship from the entity property sheet. Right-click to access the context menu and select the Baseline Versions command. You must have administrator privileges for either the source or the target of the relationship in order to baseline the versions.

Baselining at the Entity Level

To baseline versions for one or more entities, select the desired entities from the entity list in the project explorer. Right-click to access the context menu and select the Baseline Versions command. You must have administrator privileges for the selected entities in order to baseline the versions.

Baselining at the Folder Level

To baseline versions for all entities in a folder, select the desired folder from the project pane in the project explorer. Right-click to access the context menu and select the Baseline Versions command. You must have administrator privileges for all entities within the folder.

 

Baselining versions at the folder level will baseline versions for all entities included in the folder and all subfolders.

Baselining at the Package Level

To baseline versions for all entities in a package, select the desired package from the project pane in the project explorer. Right-click to access the context menu and select the Baseline Versions command. You must have administrator privileges for all entities within the package.

 

Baselining versions at the package level will baseline versions for all entities included in the package and all subpackages.

Baselining at the Project Level

To baseline versions for all entities in a project, select the Baseline Versions command on the Project ribbon, or select the project name in Project Explorer and access the command on the right-click context menu.

 

Baselining versions at the project level baselines versions for all relationship attributes as well as all entity attributes.

 

When baselining versions at the project level, a wizard will appear to give you options on baselining.

 

 

The top option is to select what type of operation is taking place. This will affect the automatic version number for the new project. The options are:

 

• Revision - will increment the last digit of the current version number (e.g., 1.0 will become 1.1)
• Variant - will add a .1 to the current version number (e.g., 1.0 will become 1.0.1)
• Release - will increment the first number (e.g., 1.0 will become 2.0)
• Custom - allows a custom number

The lower option is what will be added to the description of the project.

 

Click Next.

 

 

The options on this step are:

 

• Clear Audit Log
• Create a duplicate of this project
• The name of the duplicated project
• Permissions of the duplicated project
• Retain all permissions
• Shift permissions to read-only for all user except those that have Full Control (Project Administrators)

 

Click Baseline to baseline the versions with the options that you selected.
