Clear Audit Log

The Clear Audit Log command clears all entries from the audit log for the specified entity/entities. This command can be applied at many different levels enabling fine-grained control of audit logs. You will be prompted to confirm before the logs are cleared.

When the audit log for an entity is cleared, a notation is made in the audit log capturing the current timestamp and the user who cleared the audit log.

As with versioning, audit logging is enabled or disabled at the project level. Once enabled, audit logging maintains a basic textual log of all changes made along with the timestamp and the responsible user. These are stored in a read-only Audit Log property on the Properties tab of the property sheet. Combined with the highly detailed attribute versioning and the project comparison reports, audit logs provide insight into the evolution of an entity.

NOTE:

Audit logging is often not appropriate at the very start of a project, but as the project matures and controlled evolution becomes appropriate, audit logging should be enabled.

NOTE:

Audit logs are limited to 100 entries per entity. When an audit log exceeds this size, it is automatically trimmed to 50 entries. This maintains visibility into the change history of the entity while balancing database growth for those project teams using automated scripts that frequently revise / rebuild database content. These settings are maintained in the configuration file if more or less lines are desired.
