Print
The Print command, accessed on the File menu, outputs information from the current view to the printer. For a text window such as Project Explorer or the property sheet, the Print command outputs the attributes and relationships of the entity definition. For diagrams, the Print command provides additional configuration options for printing the diagram.
NOTE:
|
The print options below may vary for different printers.
|
Print
- The print fields indicate the current printer and its status as well as providing primary configuration options.
-
- Print Setup - click Print Setup to choose a different printer, change paper size, or change page orientation. This is identical to the Print Setup command in the File ribbon.
- Page Setup - click Page Setup to adjust the margins. This is identical to the Page Setup command in the File ribbon.
- The options provide the opportunity to adjust the specific output.
-
- Print to File - select to print to a file as opposed to printing directly to a printer. This output file can then be downloaded to the printer at a later time. This capability allows you to print diagrams even when you are not connected to a printer and then generate hard copies of documents when a printer is accessible.
- Black & White - select to print the diagram in black and white instead of color. When a diagram is printed in black and white, all backgrounds are white, and all text and lines are black.
- Show Cut Lines - if a diagram exceeds one page when printed, GENESYS has the capability of marking cut lines on the output to aid in assembling the diagram from multiple pages. However, if you do not wish to display cut lines, they can be toggled off.
- The orientation options allow you to choose how you want to lay out the diagram on the printed page. This orientation overrides the orientation established in Print Setup.
-
- Portrait - vertical page orientation.
- Landscape - horizontal page orientation. Some older printers do not support landscape orientation. If this option is not available, the Landscape and Best Fit buttons will be grayed out, thereby only allowing you to print in portrait orientation.
- Best Fit - automatically computes which page orientation (portrait or landscape) will maximize the diagram scale and sets the actual orientation appropriately.
- The copies parameters configure printing of multiple copies of the content.
-
- Number of Copies - most printer drivers support printing multiple copies of the same diagram. If your print driver has this capability, you can enter the desired number of copies in this field. If your driver does not support this option, this field will be disabled (allowing you to print only single copies).
- Collate - when printing multiple copies of the same diagram, select Collate to collate the copies (if the diagram requires more than one page).
- The scale option allows you to set the scale (as a percentage of the original diagram size) at which the diagram is printed. The minimum scale for any diagram is 10%. The maximum scale is 500%
-
- Fit to Page - automatically computes the maximum scale possible to fit the diagram on a single page in the specified orientation.
- Scale to - allows you to manually enter the desired scale at which you want the diagram printed.
- The output parameters fields provide information on the output so that you can assess the usability of the output. Diagrams can often be quite large, so providing feedback on the output parameters before printing can save you unnecessary printouts.
-
- Width - the actual width of the diagram (as printed).
- Height - the actual height of the diagram (as printed).
- Orientation - the orientation in which the diagram will be printed. This is useful if you have set the orientation as Best Fit.
- # of Pages - the actual number of pages that will be required to print the diagram in the desired orientation at the desired scale. Many diagrams can be quite large (e.g., a hierarchy diagram expanded to multiple levels) This field shows one measure of the diagram size.
- Scale - the scale at which the diagram will be printed. This is valuable if you have set the scale as Fit to Page.
- Font Size - the resulting point size of the diagram output. This often provides a more concrete measure of the diagram scale. A useful rule of thumb is that fonts below 6-point are difficult to read for the average person.
