Jump to Element

Often times when navigating through a system design via lists and diagrams, it’s useful to keep your current project explorer at its current element selection and use a new project explorer to pursue a line of thought. The Jump to Element command (available on the context-sensitive pop-up menu for element lists and diagrams) presents you with a list of available project explorers as well as the option to open a new explorer. When you jump to element in a given window, CORE navigates to and selects the element in the new window. This allows you to quickly explore without losing your original place in the model.

When selecting the Jump to Element Command, the submenu includes various windows that you can jump to:

• (Current Explorer Window) - selects the current object in the element list of the current window. If the window is not a project explorer or if the element resides in another project, this command is grayed out.
• [A list of project explorers] - between the top item and bottom item in the submenu is a list of all project explorers open on the project in which the selected element resides. The current project explorer is removed from this list. All other explorers for the project are shown with a label based upon the current selection in that explorer. The intent of the label is to help you identify which explorer you will be jumping in.
• • If an element is selected in the project explorer, the class alias and element are shown.
  • If a folder is selected, the folder name is shown with the prefix Folder.
  • If a package is selected, the package name is shown with the prefix Package.
  • If none of the above, the label Project Explorer is shown.
• (New Explorer Window) - opens a new project explorer and selects the element as the initial selection.

This capability is particularly useful for cross-project situations where you wish to seamlessly navigate across project boundaries.

Tips and Tricks If you have a dual-monitor configuration, a wonderful way to leverage this command for enhanced model navigation is to place your primary (master) project explorer on your primary monitor and maintain a dependent project explorer (or explorers) on your secondary monitor. This allows you to quickly jump to elements in the dependent explorer(s) without tabbing through windows to locate your primary explorer.
