Clear Audit Logs

The Clear Audit Logs command clears all change notations from the audit log for the specified elements. This command can be applied at many different levels enabling fine-grained control of audit logs. You will be prompted to confirm before the logs are cleared.

When the audit log for an element is cleared, a notation is made in the audit log capturing the current timestamp and the user who cleared the audit log.

As with versioning, audit logging is enabled or disabled at the project level. If disabled at the project level, the commands to clear audit logs will be disabled. Once enabled, audit logging maintains a basic textual log of all changes made along with the timestamp and the responsible user. These are stored in a read-only auditLog attribute on the secondary tab of the property sheet. Combined with the highly detailed attribute versioning and the project comparison reports, audit logs provide insight into the evolution of an element.

Audit logging is often not appropriate at the very start of a project, but as the project matures and controlled evolution becomes appropriate, audit logging should be enabled.

Audit logs are limited to 30KB per attribute. When an audit log exceeds this size, it is automatically trimmed to 16KB. This maintains visibility into the change history of the element while balancing database growth for those project teams using automated scripts that frequently revise / rebuild database content.
