Insert Information Block

The Insert Information Block command allows you to add a mini property sheet to the diagram. You determine the content (the attributes and relationships) to be shown for the main diagram element. This enables you to provide even greater context to the diagram - context that automatically stays in sync as your system definition evolves.

When inserting an information block via the Insert Information Block command, you specify the content of the information block by checking the desired attributes and relationships from the dialog prompt. In addition, you can specify whether or not to show the attribute and relationship labels along the left side of the information block as well as how to sort any targets. You can then move or resize the block or double-click the information block to edit the information shown. If there is more information selected than space available to display the information, a block will be shown in the lower-right of the information block.

Diagram information diagrams are drawn in front of graphics and shapes but behind all other diagram content.

Where are diagram information blocks stored?

Diagram information blocks are stored as part of the diagram's view description. This layer adds rich representation to the technical correctness of the diagram content generated from the underlying system model. When using information blocks, if you delete the corresponding view description in the stored view navigator, you will delete the shape along with all other customizations of the diagram representation (sizing, coloring, positioning, diagram options, etc.).
