Delete Selection (Del)

The Delete Selection command completely removes the selected objects from the database. For elements, this is deletes the element from the database. For diagram notes, graphics, or shapes, it deletes the object from the diagram. Since this command removes the objects from the system database, you must confirm this choice before the selection is deleted.

What permissions are required to delete a selection?

If the selection is an element, you must have delete permission for the element in order to delete it from the database. Otherwise, you simply require write permission for the element represented by the diagram.

Remove/Cut vs. Delete Selection

Users are sometimes confused as to whether they should remove selections or delete selections from a diagram. If you simply want to take objects off the diagram but leave them in the database, use the remove or cut command. If you want to completely delete the objects from the database, use the Delete Selection command.

Remember that CORE's underlying model is integrated, and from this integrated model, CORE generates a rich set of representations. Function ABC on one diagram is the same as Function ABC on another diagram. If you delete Function ABC, it is deleted from both diagrams (and from the database).
