Default Sort Block

CORE enables you to set two different default sort blocks - one for elements in a single class, one for elements spanning multiple classes - to best tailor the sorting and representation of lists of elements. These default sort blocks are selected by default when lists of elements are shown. You can then easily change the sort block for a given list by selecting from the set of sort blocks shown in the drop-down list at the bottom of the element list.

Default Sort Block for Single-Class Lists

Available via project explorer (either via the Utilities menu or the pop-up menu for the sort block list), this command prompts you to select which sort block to use as the initial select for lists of elements in a single class. Single-class lists of elements include the element list and element table in the project explorer, the target list in target and insertion windows, and the element lists in the diagram palette.

Default Sort Block for Multi-Class Lists

Available via project explorer (either via the Utilities menu or the pop-up menu for the sort block list), this command prompts you to select which sort block to use as the initial select for lists of elements that span multiple classes. Multi-class lists of elements include the relationship list on element property sheets, the sort block used in ER and hierarchy diagrams, and the diagram elements grid available at the bottom of a diagram view,

Tips and Tricks

When dealing with a list of elements that spans multiple classes, it's useful to include the class itself in the sort block representation. Even if you don't sort by the class, it will help distinguish elements of different types (components from functions, for example). This is particularly true if you use packages for navigating your system definition.
